The US Central Command announced on Monday, July 25, that American forces had achieved a historic success by helping protect and escort merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz during oil shipments exceeding 1.5 million barrels through the strait. According to a US Central Command statement posted on the social media platform X, American forces assisted and protected 30 foreign-flagged vessels passing through the strait in the past six months, with more than 95% of the vessels traveling safely.

A fresh confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz erupted following joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran on October 28. Iran immediately issued a warning for the strategic strait, requiring all oil tankers to obtain prior permission before crossing the waterway, which carries one-fifth or 20% of global oil output.
Nevertheless, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed earlier this month that Iran’s armed forces had lost control over the entire Strait of Hormuz and that Iran’s economy was only experiencing a temporary setback and a severe blow.
