She called on the World Heritage Centre and UNESCO’s legal advisers to examine legal mechanisms related to the spirit of the 1970 and 1972 conventions to address the issue effectively.\nShe made the remarks while leading a Cambodian delegation on a courtesy visit and working discussion with UNESCO’s Director-General at the organisation’s headquarters in Paris on November 26, 2025.\nAt the meeting, the minister congratulated Khaled Ahmed El-Enany Ali Ezz on taking office as UNESCO’s new Director-General following his election by the 43rd General Conference. She also highlighted Cambodia’s commitment, as a member state, to continued cooperation, programme implementation and respect for UNESCO’s key principles.\nCooperation between Cambodia and UNESCO was described as successful, including technical assistance for ICC projects concerning Angkor, Sambor Prei Kuk and Preah Vihear, and other sectors, to protect, promote and conserve tangible and intangible heritage.\nThe minister also raised the possibility of sending UNESCO experts to independently inspect and assess damage to Preah Vihear Temple caused by earlier border clashes.\nThe UNESCO Director-General warmly welcomed the Cambodian delegation and praised Cambodia as a member state that continued to cooperate actively and effectively.
