A joint operation in Phnom Penh on December 1 detained 28 suspects, including six women, at a residence suspected of hosting online scams.

On December 1, the Phnom Penh Unified Administrative Command Committee carried out a joint operation targeting online fraud in Por Sen Chey district, detaining 28 suspects, including six women. Acting on intelligence assessed beforehand, officers raided house 2N in the Park Villa residential development.
According to the investigation, the group is suspected of online fraud involving romance-based manipulation known as pig-butchering scams, as well as threats and extortion. Officers seized 39 monitors, 11 computer system units, 100 mobile phones and multiple SIM cards. Of those detained, 27 were Vietnamese nationals, including six women, and one was a Cambodian man.
All suspects have been transferred to the Phnom Penh Municipal Police and relevant departments for further examination and legal proceedings. The premises have also been sealed. The Phnom Penh Unified Administrative Command said it would maintain pressure under its operation to eradicate technology-enabled fraud and crack down on all types of online fraud in accordance with the law.
