Police said a December 1 villa raid in Siem Reap led to the arrest of 16 Bangladeshi and three Nepali suspects and the seizure of computers and phones.

December 1, police raided a rented villa in Siem Reap city under the unified command’s instructions and arrested 19 foreign nationals suspected of telecom fraud. Those arrested included 16 Bangladeshi men and 3 Nepali men. Police said the group had arrived in Siem Reap only about two weeks earlier and was planning online scams targeting victims overseas under the guise of investments in shares.
After obtaining firm leads, police launched the arrests and seized 7 desktop computers, 1 laptop and 35 mobile phones, among other suspected equipment. Technical investigators are working with other agencies to identify the organisers and additional associates. The villa has been temporarily sealed.
All suspects have been transferred to the Siem Reap provincial police for legal proceedings. Police said the nationwide crackdown on online fraud was continuing and that all organisations and individuals involved would face strict action under the law.
