Sihanoukville’s water resources and meteorology department used machinery to remove rubbish and sediment blocking Ou Prek Tup canal, aiming to improve drainage and prevent flooding during heavy rain.

Heng Sophanrith, director of Sihanoukville’s provincial Department of Water Resources and Meteorology, inspected restoration work on Ou Prek Tup canal in Sangkat 3, Sihanoukville city, on January 13, 2026.
The site had accumulated washed-in soil and large quantities of rubbish, creating blockages that could easily cause flooding if heavy rain occurred, particularly during the rainy season.
The department’s working team therefore deployed machinery to restore the canal and excavate rubbish and soil blocking the watercourse, allowing water to flow faster and helping prevent flooding from rainwater.
