Authorities say a man surnamed Wang was arrested at a Huai Khwang restaurant after being traced to a Bangkok villa.

Thai Immigration said on March 26 that the Chinese Embassy had provided information about a Chinese man surnamed Wang, wanted by Shijiazhuang police under a September 2024 arrest warrant on suspicion of illegally taking public deposits. The report says he fled to Thailand and hid in Bangkok; Thai authorities revoked his permission to stay and began searching for him.

After tracking a suspect who reportedly moved cautiously and changed residences repeatedly, officers traced him to a luxury villa in Bangkok’s Bang Na district valued at more than 50 million baht. They arrested him that day while he was dining out at a restaurant in Huai Khwang, under provisions of the Immigration Act.

The report says Wang was taken to the immigration detention centre pending return to China. Investigators allege that, through a company, he conducted pyramid-like schemes and unlawful fundraising while promising high returns, involving more than 1,000 victims and about 200 million yuan. Thai Immigration urged the public to report leads on foreign-related offences.
