Tourism Minister Huot Hak presided over the opening ceremony of the “Cambodia Golf Invitational” on the evening of October 25, 2026, at the Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh. The ceremony was attended by Ministry of Tourism leaders, representatives of the Pacific Asia Travel Association’s Cambodia chapter (PATA Cambodia Chapter), Golfasian, the Cambodia Tourism Federation and the private sector, and golfers from 11 countries and territories: Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, England, Scotland, Ireland, India, the United States, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. Huot Hak highly valued the initiative to organise the event, which helps promote Cambodia as a tourism destination, showcase the potential of its international-standard golf courses, and give participants an opportunity to discover the country’s rich cultural heritage and the warm hospitality of its people. The Minister highlighted five key benefits of the event: first, raising Cambodia’s profile and tourism brand internationally; second, diversifying tourism products through sports tourism in line with the “Beyond Temples” direction; third, attracting tourists with greater spending capacity, increasing expenditure and length of stay, and expanding business and investment opportunities; fourth, demonstrating Cambodia’s capacity, infrastructure and service quality in hosting international-level sporting events; and fifth, strengthening Cambodia’s position as a quality golf tourism destination in Southeast Asia. He added that the Ministry would continue strengthening cooperation with the private sector and supporting initiatives to enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of Cambodian tourism.
