(Phnom Penh) — Tourism Minister Huot Hak and his wife presided over a second-anniversary celebration and the inauguration of the Koh Pich branch of KYŌ Shabu, a Cambodian–Japanese joint-investment restaurant, on the evening of November 18, 2025. Japanese Ambassador UENO Atsushi attended, along with Cambodian and international businesspeople, content creators and many local and international guests.
The Japanese investors told the presiding guests of their affection for Cambodia as a second home, the warm hospitality of its people and their confidence in the government's leadership and investment incentives. They said these factors had encouraged further investment and the opening of more branches.
The ambassador said embassy statistics showed nearly 300 Japanese restaurants in Phnom Penh, a significant increase indicating the popularity of Japanese cuisine in Cambodia. Culinary exchanges, he said, help people understand each other's cultures and customs and promote stronger, wider cooperation.
The minister congratulated the Cambodian and Japanese investors on their success. He said their contribution went beyond developing restaurants and hospitality to demonstrate harmony and friendship between Cambodia and Japan, Cambodia's favourable investment environment and, especially, the readiness of Cambodia and its people to make the country a destination for diverse cuisines from all regions of the world.
