Cambodia's civil aviation authorities recently announced that Siem Reap Angkor International Airport would welcome three additional international routes by the end of this year, bringing the number of international airlines operating there to 15. The expansion is seen as an important result of Cambodia's open-skies policy and a reflection of the airport's competitiveness in facilities and services.
The new routes will be operated by Malaysia's Firefly and South Korea's T'way Air and Air Busan. Firefly will launch direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Siem Reap on November 27. India's IndiGo previously launched direct flights from Kolkata to Siem Reap, adding options for travel between Southeast Asia, South Asia and Cambodia.
Civil aviation authorities said the continued expansion of international routes reflected strong growth in demand in Cambodia's aviation market and would bring more visitors to the local tourism industry. Figures showed that nationwide air passenger traffic reached 5.66 million in the first ten months of this year, up 14% year on year, pointing to positive prospects for aviation and tourism.
