Speaking at the 2025 Cambodia–China Tourism Forum, themed "Seizing Opportunities in China's Tourism Market and Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind," Cambodian Tourism Minister Huot Hak said the country was ready to welcome more Chinese tourists and investors. By improving the tourism environment, service quality and investment facilitation, the government was seeking to seize opportunities from Cambodia–China Tourism Year (2025–2026), deepen bilateral cultural and tourism cooperation and support economic growth.
Huot Hak said tourism had always been a priority for Cambodia's economic development. The government was developing green, clean and smart tourism products while promoting high-value cultural and tourism projects and business travel to strengthen the sector's competitiveness. Figures showed about 4.8 million international tourist arrivals in the first ten months of 2025, including nearly one million from China, underscoring the Chinese market's importance. Before the pandemic, in 2019, Chinese arrivals reached 2.3 million, one-third of Cambodia's international total. "China is not only an important strategic partner for Cambodia but also one of the world's most important tourism source markets. The return of Chinese visitors will bring major opportunities to Cambodia's tourism sector and related industries," he said.
Despite continuing uncertainty in the international economy and geopolitics, he said Cambodia was very optimistic about tourism cooperation with China. Cambodia–China Tourism Year would continue through 2026, marking an important opportunity to deepen tourism links, improve connectivity and people-to-people exchanges, and support a closer Cambodia–China community with a shared future, bringing tangible benefits to both peoples.
