Thailand’s Immigration Bureau recently announced at a press conference that a joint operation with several agencies had arrested three wanted Chinese suspects. The Chinese Embassy in Thailand had provided leads and requested help investigating a group suspected of using job offers to lure Chinese citizens to Myanmar and Cambodia for online scam operations. Chinese police had been investigating the cases over an extended period. Several alleged victims were reportedly deceived with false offers to arrange overseas credit cards, taken illegally to scam compounds abroad and forced to participate in crime.
Investigators said the group had operated since late 2024, with two Chinese men at its core. Intermediaries allegedly helped victims cross borders illegally before delivering them to scam compounds overseas. According to Chinese police figures, more than 100 people had been victimised, with combined losses exceeding 1 million yuan. Chinese police had already arrested several suspects domestically and issued formal arrest warrants for members who fled abroad.
Acting on the information from China, Thailand’s Immigration Bureau traced the two alleged ringleaders, who had entered Thailand on tourist visas in June and September of this year respectively and hidden in apartments in different parts of Bangkok. Officers arrested them following surveillance and found another Chinese woman linked to the cases, who was also confirmed to be wanted by the Chinese judicial authorities. Thai police said the three suspects had been arrested under immigration procedures and that cooperation with China would continue, with their transfer to China to proceed according to the required procedures.
