(Oddar Meanchey) Nearly 30 journalists from 20 media organisations, led by the Cambodian journalists’ club, visited the Bat Thkao camp in Chong Kal district, Oddar Meanchey province, on December 12 to report directly on displaced residents’ situation. The report placed the mission amid the Cambodia–Thailand border conflict, describing intense Thai attacks on Cambodian sovereign territory as having reached their ninth day at the time of reporting.
According to a statement by the Cambodian journalists’ club, the border conflict had grown more serious following renewed Thai military attacks from December 7, 2025, and it remained unclear when tensions would ease or a new ceasefire would take effect. Describing the attacks as brutal and inhumane, the statement said at least 12 Cambodian civilians had been killed and another 74 people injured, including journalists, while the number displaced had risen above 400,000.
The report also said the brutal attacks by Thai forces had displaced nearly 400,000 Cambodians living in provinces bordering Thailand, closed nearly 600 schools and forced more than 130,000 pupils to interrupt their studies.
During the journalists’ club mission, some donors also contributed 3,000 tents, essential supplies, food and money for distribution to 1,000 displaced families.
