Thai media recently reported that Cambodian forces might have hired Russian citizens as mercenaries to fight Thai forces on the Cambodia–Thailand border.
Russia’s embassy in Thailand issued a statement rejecting the reports. It said such unfounded assertions appeared intended to infringe the rights of Russian citizens staying in Thailand for tourism or business and undermine the traditionally friendly relationship between Russia and Thailand.
The statement also reiterated Russia’s position on the border conflict: Russia has long worked to maintain its traditional friendships and promote cooperation with both Thailand and Cambodia, and hopes that all disputes will be resolved solely by peaceful means.
