On December 16, Cambodian Senate President Samdech Hun Sen publicly responded to reports by some Thai media that “foreign soldiers were involved in fighting inside Cambodia”, calling the claims entirely false and firmly denying them.
In a statement on his official Facebook page, Hun Sen said no Russian citizens or other foreign nationals were taking part in military operations in Cambodia and no foreigners were intervening in Cambodian military affairs as military advisers. He said the clarification aimed to rebut false reporting, uphold national sovereignty and dignity, and avoid misunderstanding about the countries and individuals wrongly mentioned.
Hun Sen stressed that Cambodia maintained an independent and self-reliant defence policy, calling any claims of foreign soldiers’ involvement in domestic military operations unfounded and untrustworthy.
