Recently, South Korean police launched a nationwide anti-fraud campaign to curb escalating telecom fraud, introducing voiceprint recognition to track scammers through their voices. According to the Korean National Police Agency, police and creative agency Cheil launched the campaign, called VOICE WANTED. It encourages people to submit recordings of scam calls they receive. Police will compare and analyse the audio using specialist voiceprint techniques to identify suspects and investigate the criminal networks behind them. Police said the campaign would build a database of scammers’ voiceprints and strengthen voice analysis to improve investigative efficiency and target telecom fraud and organised crime.
