On December 22, Thai Prime Minister Anutin commented publicly on China’s mediation over the Cambodia–Thailand situation. He said China’s Special Envoy for Asian Affairs Deng Xijun had not exerted any pressure on Thailand during their communications to make it agree to a ceasefire with Cambodia.
Anutin said Deng had mainly conveyed China’s concerns and hopes for regional peace and stability, stressing that China maintained an impartial stance on the issue and encouraged all parties to ease tensions through dialogue.
Anutin also reiterated that Thailand had a clear position on a ceasefire. He said peace could only truly be achieved if Cambodia complied with the ceasefire conditions proposed by Thailand.
