US President Donald Trump discussed renewed fighting between Thailand and Cambodia and efforts to end the conflict on December 22. He spoke at a ceremony announcing the production of a new class of giant warships, alongside the secretary of war and the secretary of the navy. Answering a journalist’s question, Trump mentioned working with Secretary of State Marco Rubio to end the Cambodia–Thailand conflict. He claimed to have ended eight wars and discussed his expectations of the difficulty of resolving conflicts. Nevertheless, can the United States really stop the Thai military’s aggression against Cambodia? Meanwhile, China has expressed full support for ASEAN’s efforts to ensure peace between Cambodia and Thailand, but yesterday ASEAN had already failed to stop the fighting between the two countries.
