Recently, the YouTube account The Country Collectors posted a 24-minute video saying they had suffered a violent attack at Cambodia’s Angkor heritage site. In response, the APSARA National Authority said the incident had occurred on February 7, 2024, involving one American and one Russian tourist, and was unrelated to Cambodia’s competent institutions. In a January 5 press release, APSARA further explained that the two parties fought over a photography spot east of the Hall of Dancers at Ta Prohm temple and used violent language towards one another. APSARA tourism staff provided initial assistance to the injured person and referred the parties to the Siem Reap provincial tourist police for mediation and resolution. The authority said both sides had agreed to end the dispute on the day of the incident, February 7, 2024, as recorded in minutes attached to the release. Both parties also apologised to the relevant authorities and the Cambodian people for the problem they had caused and expressed regret that the incident had occurred at a sacred Cambodian temple site.
