Following the reported entry of the Thai navy into Cambodian waters at Koh Yo in Pak Khlang commune, Mondul Seima district, Koh Kong province, where four Cambodian fishers and one fishing boat were seized, provincial governor Chhi Va instructed all sea fishers in the province not to venture deep into areas controlled by Thailand, because tensions along the border had not yet eased.
During meetings with fishers and their families in Khemara Phoumin city and Mondul Seima district on January 7, the governor appealed to them to follow the principles prescribed by law and fish in nearby areas within Cambodian waters.
She also met the families of the four fishers detained by Thai forces. Chhi Va said Cambodian authorities were actively working to coordinate with Thailand to bring the four fishers back safely.
The report noted that, as of 11:30 am on January 8, 2026, three days had passed since the four Cambodian fishers were seized by the Thai navy and taken to Thailand.
