Workers at the Yu Jia Cheng factory, located along National Road 3 in Kong Pisei district, Kampong Speu province, have returned to work as normal. They had blocked National Road 3 in protest over grievances against a Chinese supervisor who had not paid year-end benefits and had not allowed holiday leave.
Sun Mesa, spokesman for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, said on the morning of January 8 that the factory’s workers had returned after senior ministry officials went to resolve their protest and fully settled the matter the previous day.
The spokesman said the ministry always paid attention to resolving workers’ and employees’ problems swiftly and effectively, whether in the garment industry or other sectors, and never ignored them. He added that all workers and employees could lodge complaints or provide information through hotline “1286” so the ministry’s specialist officials could help resolve their problems.
