On the evening of January 15, Phnom Penh gendarmes raided a site suspected of illegally selling e-cigarettes on Street 172 in Victory sangkat, Daun Penh district. The premises had operated covertly for a long time and, because it sold to teenagers and students, was privately known among students as the “mysterious house.” Officers found 268,504 e-cigarette devices,69,615 pods,792 bottles of e-liquid and 443 cannabis grinders, with the goods estimated to be worth millions of U.S. dollars. Preliminary inquiries identified the owner as 58-year-old Tang Sok Heng. Authorities had seized all the unlawful items. The owner was arrested at the scene and transferred to the Phnom Penh Gendarmerie Command for subsequent legal proceedings. The government had repeatedly reiterated a ban on importing, distributing and using e-cigarettes and related chemicals in Cambodia. The operation aimed to combat illicit trading, protect public health, especially minors, and maintain public security and order. Compiled by this station.
