At the Samner Angkor, or Angkor Dictation, event, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport said strengthening Khmer reading and writing from the earliest grades provided the foundation for learning other subjects and success at later levels of study. The current dictation competition under the Angkor Dictation theme also reflected attention from the government’s leadership, the Education Ministry, relevant institutions and especially enthusiasts of Khmer writing. It aimed to improve correct spelling, grammatical accuracy and clear article-writing—important skills in studying the Khmer language and literature. A participant with a disability said that, as a person with a disability and a Khmer citizen, taking part in Angkor Dictation was highly significant. The purpose was not winning or losing but helping promote national literature and showing Khmer culture to the world so people would know Cambodia. By Pai Sokhim.
