Four men impersonating police officers were caught at the Street 2004 junction in Phnom Penh’s Por Sen Chey district at 11 p.m. on January 21. Wearing civilian clothes and riding motorcycles, they carried forged Criminal Investigation Department officer identification cards and were exposed and arrested on the spot by police.
A deputy chief of the district police was patrolling the area when he noticed the four men acting suspiciously. He approached to question them and identified himself, but they refused to believe him and instead shouted at him. Other police officers then arrived and brought the four under control. Police said this was not their first alleged offence: victims had previously reported being extorted of US$350 by them. The case remains under questioning and investigation.
