On January 23, the Thai military found a large telecom-fraud compound at the O'Smach crossing on the Thailand–Cambodia border. Inside were replicas of police stations and government offices from several countries, used to deceive victims worldwide. Photographs from the site were later released.
Thai army intelligence led the operation and found substantial evidence relating to transnational telecom fraud. Investigators said the group was tightly organised, with clear divisions of labour and highly systematic, professional operations, and had long engaged in cross-border telecom fraud.
Thai authorities said such crimes seriously harmed national security and international interests. Relevant agencies would broaden investigations, trace the networks behind them and adopt tougher lawful enforcement measures to continue dismantling cross-border fraud.
