South Korean President Lee Jae Myung reiterated on January 30 that cross-border scam crime would face continued, tough enforcement. According to South Korean media, he wrote on X, formerly Twitter: ‘Those who harm Koreans will be ruined. This is no empty statement. The Republic of Korea keeps its word and will see it through.’ He simultaneously posted the same content in Khmer, signalling the importance he attached to transnational scams.
Lee also attached a related news report stating that some Chinese criminal groups based in Cambodia no longer recruited Koreans in order to avoid the intense enforcement pressure of South Korean police. This was seen as a direct effect of the authorities' continued strengthening of cross-border enforcement and anti-scam efforts.
