The success of Chaktomuk Walk Street in its first year is credited to the leadership of the Phnom Penh administration, civil servants at all levels, all forces involved and public support.
The pilot began on February 1, 2025, on Preah Sisowath Quay between Streets 94 and 240 in Daun Penh district. From 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. every weekend, all vehicles are prohibited.
The street attracts around 80,000 to 100,000 visits on Saturdays and Sundays. It has generated nearly 1,400 business and livelihood opportunities, comprising about 1,000 general vendors and approximately 400 stalls.
The report cites Phnom Penh's second-place global nightlife ranking, tenth place among tourists' favourite cities and inclusion in the BBC's 20 best destinations for 2026. By: Pai Sokhim.
