On February 8, Thai soldiers patrolling the border in Sa Kaeo province arrested three Chinese men who had entered illegally in a sugarcane plantation. They were identified only by the surnames Zhong, aged 23, Qi, aged 24, and Jin, aged 31.
According to the report, the three had worked in the telecommunications and online scam industry in Cambodia for 11 months without receiving wages. Dissatisfied with their treatment, they tried to travel to Thailand using an illegal border-crossing route supplied by a smuggler.
The Thai military had transferred all three to police for further handling, and the case remained under investigation.
