The Cambodian government lodged a formal protest over the unauthorised presence of Thai naval vessels and Thai law-enforcement procedures on February 22, 2026, in waters Cambodia identifies as its own. According to the account, the Thai naval action included the detention of three Cambodian citizens and seizure of their fishing boat about 7.2 nautical miles from Koh Yor, Koh Kong province, Cambodia. Cambodia described the action as a clear violation of its sovereignty and waters, as well as contrary to principles of international law. Cambodia demanded that Thailand immediately release the citizens and return the fishing boat, stop unauthorised patrols and law enforcement in waters Cambodia identifies as its own, and take appropriate measures to prevent such incidents recurring.
