On the morning of March 4, Cambodia’s Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training said 19 workers had recovered and been discharged after a mass-fainting incident at the Xihao handbag factory in Kandal, while 12 remained in hospital for observation and treatment. Relevant departments intervened promptly after the incident.
The report said two female sewing workers initially developed dizziness and breathing difficulties. Anxiety among other workers was followed by a chain reaction in which more people fainted. After receiving the report, the ministry coordinated hospital treatment and launched an investigation.
Preliminary findings cited inadequate ventilation, high workshop temperatures, a strong adhesive smell and substandard environmental hygiene as the main factors triggering the incident. The factory arranged paid leave for March 3–5 and expected to resume production on March 6.
