Amid higher oil prices linked to the Middle East war, Mines and Energy Minister Keo Rottanak said on March 8, 2026, that Cambodia had not reached a fuel-supply shortage and retained stocks sufficient for twenty-one days. He explained that this meant twenty-one days if companies could not import any fuel at all. Imports were continuing daily and no source had yet been cut off, he said. His remarks came as escalating conflict led several shipping companies, major oil firms and traders to suspend crude oil, fuel and liquefied natural gas transport through the Strait of Hormuz temporarily. The minister said prices had begun rising because new fuel imports cost more, in line with global increases. He said prices were not set by individual station owners but by the Commerce Ministry and Ministry of Economy and Finance in line with newly imported fuel costs. Written by Nget Pisant
