As the sun sets, rich golden-red light falls across the reservoir, creating a striking scene that leaves a lasting impression on visitors. The baray around Neak Pean is becoming a popular destination for Cambodian and international visitors to enjoy sunrise and sunset. Jayatataka, also known as the North Baray, was built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII. Despite its many centuries of history, the reservoir, approximately 3,600 metres long and 930 metres wide, retains its grandeur and historical value. The historic baray is more than a tourist destination: it also helps maintain groundwater and supports the water system around Angkor Thom, Neak Pean and Preah Khan. Written by Pai Sokhim.
