The Interior Ministry temporarily suspended Stung Treng prison chief Lim Veasna and three other officials from work and their duties, according to a decision signed by Interior Minister Sar Sokha and obtained on March 13.
The decision covered prison chief Lim Veasna, the head and deputy head of the operations office, and the chief of the detainee-management section.
The report linked the temporary suspensions to allegations circulating on social media that detainees at Stung Treng prison were allowed to use phones in exchange for payments of thousands of dollars. It also noted that Deputy Prime Minister Sar Sokha had previously ordered Lim Veasna’s temporary suspension in late July 2024.
