Thailand’s Immigration Division 4 reportedly detained a Chinese national wanted through Interpol after receiving information from China. Identified by the alias Shang, the man was suspected of using a company to solicit fraudulent investments involving 105 million yuan in China. The report said he fled to Thailand and hid in remote woodland near the boundary of Maha Sarakham and Khon Kaen provinces. On March 17, division investigators located and detained him at a site used for folk religious practices. He was reportedly preparing for a ritual tattoo ceremony in an attempt to change his fortune and avoid misfortune. Police said he admitted the alleged fraud and flight from China. Records reportedly showed his Thai permission to stay had expired and that he had overstayed 331 days. The suspect was transferred to Khon Kaen police for proceedings concerning overstaying and other alleged offences, with subsequent extradition or deportation procedures to follow.
