Kampot Governor Mao Thonin directed city and commune authorities and relevant departments to ensure that riverbank fill is removed immediately, allowing one week for compliance. If the instruction is not followed, the provincial administration will prepare the case for referral to court.
The governor issued the instruction after finding the works during an inspection of Ta Ang village, Troeuy Koh commune, Kampot city, on the morning of March 24, 2026.
He said action would be taken without exception against anyone seeking to turn state public land into personal or factional property, even if buildings or fences predated his arrival in office.
He instructed all nine city and district administrations to scrutinise construction applications and public land boundaries, and advised residents to build only on their own lawful private property to avoid losses.
He also asked city authorities to study access roads to the Ta Ang recreation area in preparation for a future reinforced-concrete public road for villagers and visitors. Written by Pai Sokhim.
