In a March 30 notice, the Ministry of Health’s Communicable Disease Control Department said it was actively monitoring the SARS-CoV-2 variant BA.3.2, known as “Cicada,” an Omicron descendant. The notice said WHO classified it as a variant under monitoring and that it had been detected in the United States, Japan, Kenya, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, but not yet in “our region” at that time. Based on global data then available, there was no evidence of increased spread or severity. The department said it had not detected the variant in Cambodia at that time and would continue monitoring and providing updates. By Nget Pisant.
