In a Facebook post on the morning of March 31, Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed the capital and provincial unified command committees, particularly all relevant authorities, to strictly implement government orders strengthening road safety as people prepared to travel home or take trips during Khmer Traditional New Year. The instruction came as the April 14–16 New Year holiday approached. The report suggested that the prime minister may also have been responding to the frequency of recent crashes and seeking to protect people during the holiday. He also urged the public to drive carefully and strictly follow traffic rules, especially during the upcoming New Year. He warned that violations, particularly drunk driving that endangered others’ lives, would face strict legal accountability without exception. Written by Nget Pisant
