In an April 5 statement, Cambodia’s Foreign Ministry alleged that Thai forces had cleared land near Preah Vihear Temple, north of វត្តកែវសិក្ខាគីរីស្វារៈ, on April 4, laid about 100 metres of barbed wire and deployed armoured vehicles in the បុស្សស្បូវ–ជាំតែ area. Cambodia formally protested what it described as repeated Thai military activities.
The ministry said the activities were not self-defence and were inconsistent with the joint statement of the third special General Border Committee meeting. Cambodia characterised them as violations of its sovereignty and territorial integrity and of existing de-escalation measures and bilateral arrangements. It said it did not recognise unilateral Thai boundary lines or territorial claims and maintained that these activities must not prejudice Cambodia’s legal rights concerning the international boundary.
