On the evening of April 22, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet posted a warm welcome to the visiting high-level Chinese delegation on his official Facebook page. Earlier that afternoon, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Defence Minister Dong Jun arrived in Phnom Penh to attend the first Cambodia–China “2+2” strategic dialogue.
The dialogue aims to strengthen high-level communication and coordination in foreign affairs and defence and deepen the countries’ strategic relations. The report describes the inaugural “2+2” meeting as an important step in political trust, security cooperation and coordination on regional affairs.
Cambodia and China have long maintained close, friendly relations as comprehensive strategic partners and “ironclad friends.” Hun Manet said Cambodia attached great importance to relations with China and wished to build on existing cooperation to advance their all-weather community with a shared future in the new era, deepen practical cooperation across sectors and further develop bilateral relations.
