Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said several private companies were interested in bidding to operate Phnom Penh’s public bus service. He said he had rejected the proposals because he was concerned that private operators would raise fares to make a profit at the expense of residents and students. He also expressed concern that private companies might be unable to provide free rides when the state needed to offer them to residents and students. He said some public services therefore needed to remain under state management. Hun Manet made the remarks on Thursday morning, May 21, 2026, at the inauguration of the new General Department of Taxation headquarters. By: ង៉ែត ពិសាន្ត
