Preah Sihanouk: two consecutive days of heavy rain, on 25 and 26 June 2026, caused rainwater flooding in several parts of the province, especially major roads, urban areas and some residents’ homes. Many residents were affected as water entered homes and damaged some household belongings, motorcycles, cars and other property. Travel on some roads was also difficult. After water levels began to fall, local authorities and specialists inspected and cleared drains, canals and outlets in affected areas to improve the flow and effectiveness of drainage. The report’s observations identified improperly discarded rubbish in canals, drains and under bridges as an important cause of blocked flow, slow drainage and flooding in some areas during heavy rain. Provincial authorities urged residents to protect the environment and manage waste properly, avoiding dumping in canals, drains and streams. They said public cooperation was important in reducing drainage blockages and helping prevent flooding during heavy rain. Authorities also continued deploying personnel to clear canals, drains and streams at key locations, aiming to drain water faster and reduce the risk of renewed flooding during future heavy rain.
