To improve rainy-season drainage and maintain a clean environment, Preah Sihanouk provincial Water Resources and Meteorology Department director ហេង សោភ័ណរិទ្ធ assigned departmental teams and machinery to clear rubbish from drainage streams in Sihanoukville on 28 June 2026, under Governor Mang Sineth’s direction. The operation took place at អូរព្រែកទប់ in sangkat 3 and អូរស្ដេចមឹក in sangkat 4. The team collected and removed rubbish from both streams using seven trucks of the 25-tonne class and ten trucks of the 5-tonne class. The department said improper rubbish disposal and dumping into drainage streams and canals were major causes of blocked water flow, rain flooding, harm to livelihoods and deterioration of the city’s appearance. Provincial authorities called on residents and traders to help protect the environment by disposing of rubbish properly and keeping it out of streams, canals and drainage systems, with the aim of a cleaner, greener Sihanoukville free of rain flooding.
