On August 1, 2026, the National Bank of Cambodia announced that it would continue to exchange old, crumpled or torn riel banknotes for new notes free of charge. This regular service is available during working hours at its branches in the capital and provinces nationwide, as well as through banknote-exchange campaigns at other locations. In addition to these exchanges, all National Bank of Cambodia branches help ease the burden on people whose riel banknotes have been damaged by risks such as fire, termites or rodents. For example, on July 31, 2026, the National Bank of Cambodia’s Takeo branch helped residents and promoted the use of the riel by exchanging termite- or rodent-damaged banknotes for new notes without any service fee. The beneficiaries live in នៀល village, Tram Kak commune, Tram Kak district, Takeo province. The stated conditions are that the notes must be genuine rather than counterfeit, and that more than 70 percent of their original form must remain, subject to assessment. By: ង៉ែត ពិសាន្ត
