According to an official statement by Samdech Techo Hun Sen on the evening of October 8, 2026: For some time I made a promise to my daughter Mov Sophan, a teacher in Prey Veng province who suffers from a kidney disease (kidney failure), that I would find a way to get her cured. After undergoing regular dialysis and awaiting treatment, and with care provided by Cambodian and French doctors at Calmette Hospital, my daughter Mov Sophan has successfully undergone a kidney transplant. Thank you to the Cambodian and French medical team and especially to the person who donated the kidney so that my daughter Mov Sophan could live (without a kidney transplant, she would only have been waiting to die). My wife and I will continue to support both the kidney donor and the recipient. Our country is now able to treat such illnesses in many instances, with no need to go and wait abroad.
