The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has called on relevant ministries and institutions, public authorities, and citizens to help conserve water sources and use water economically to prepare for the upcoming dry season, especially in remote rural areas far from water sources. According to the weather forecast, the 2026 rainy season will end in the third week of October, while the El Niño phenomenon is forecast to continue affecting the country until February 2027.

The Ministry stated that the weakening of the southwest monsoon and the strengthening of the northeast monsoon could reduce rainfall amounts, and some areas may experience thunder, lightning, and gusty winds. In this regard, the municipal and provincial Departments of Water Resources and Meteorology must continue to maintain reservoirs, ponds, and other water bodies, and assess available water quantities to plan water use appropriately.

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology also recommended giving priority to water use for daily livelihoods before allocating water for dry-season rice cultivation and other associated crops. Therefore, the participation of all parties in conserving water and responsibly managing water resources is essential to ensure sufficient water for future use. Article by: សុភ័ក្រ្ត
