Cambodia’s Siem Reap-Angkor International Airport recently announced that it has handled 4.6387 million passengers and supported more than 50,000 flights since beginning commercial operations on October 16, 2023. Seventeen airlines now operate there, serving 20 cities across 10 countries.

Construction of the airport began in March 2020, and it entered commercial operation in October 2023 before its inauguration ceremony was held in November that year. It is one of the landmark projects jointly built by Cambodia and China under the Belt and Road Initiative. The project cost approximately US$1.1 billion and was jointly invested in by three companies from Yunnan Province, China. It uses a build-operate-transfer (BOT) model with a 55-year concession period.

The airport covers approximately 700 hectares and is about 51 kilometers from Siem Reap city. It has a 3,600-meter runway and an ICAO Category 4E airfield. The terminal covers approximately 81,800 square meters and is designed to handle 7 million passengers annually.

Data from the State Secretariat of Civil Aviation of Cambodia show that the airport handled 714,133 passengers in the first half of 2026. Passenger throughput reached 1.47 million for the full year 2025, an increase of 5.3 percent year over year. As its route network continues to operate, the airport’s passenger performance and its contribution to Siem Reap’s tourism industry are drawing attention.
