Recently, ABA Bank in Cambodia issued a security reminder urging the public to be alert to funds received in their accounts from unknown sources. The bank said that such payments could involve fraud, money laundering or other financial crimes. Even if the sender claims the transfer was made by mistake, the recipient should not dispose of the funds on their own.

ABA Bank advised that after receiving an unfamiliar transfer, recipients should leave the funds untouched, not spend them, transfer them to a third party, or directly refund them as instructed by a stranger. Fraudsters may use the pretext of a “mistaken transfer” to induce recipients to send the money out, causing them to become unknowingly involved in illegal transactions or suffer financial losses.

The bank recommended that anyone who notices an unexplained deposit in their account should immediately contact ABA customer service so the bank can review the transaction and assist with handling it. Within Cambodia, the free hotline is 1 800 203 203. Reporting the transaction through the bank’s official channels and waiting for verification can help protect account security and avoid unnecessary legal and financial risks caused by making an unauthorized transfer.
