A 34-year-old Chinese man was recently arrested for investigation after a drunken disturbance on the third floor of a casino in Genting Highlands, Malaysia. He is suspected of damaging casino equipment and injuring an auxiliary police officer.
According to reports, the man lost control of his emotions and struck a gambling machine with his head, damaging the screens of three machines and two chairs. The casino estimated the damage at about 85,000 ringgit. During the incident, he also shouted, “I am Chinese.” When a 32-year-old auxiliary police officer tried to intervene, the man punched him in the mouth, breaking two of his teeth. The man also injured his forehead during the disturbance and received six stitches after treatment.
Preliminary police investigations indicated that the man was drunk at the time and had already behaved aggressively towards passers-by before entering the casino. Police said a urine test was negative for drugs and that he had no criminal record.
The case is being investigated under provisions of Malaysia’s Penal Code relating to voluntarily causing hurt and mischief involving damage to property. Police are obtaining surveillance footage and witness statements and applying for an extension of his remand to establish what happened. They said the case would be handled in accordance with the law regardless of the suspect’s nationality.
