After customers at some banks became concerned and rushed to withdraw funds over the past two days, particularly at Prince Bank Plc., the National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) said it was taking necessary measures to ensure normal operation of customer accounts at the bank and, especially, the safety of their money. The statement followed United States and United Kingdom sanctions against the bank’s parent company over allegations involving online scam crimes.
In light of reports concerning Prince Bank Plc., Cambodian authorities were closely scrutinising the bank. According to an NBC press release, the monitoring aimed to ensure compliance with Cambodian law. The central bank also said all banking and financial institutions in Cambodia were subject to strict prudential measures and had sufficient liquidity to meet customers’ cash requirements.
