At the Cambodia–Thailand peace-agreement signing ceremony in Kuala Lumpur, Thai Prime Minister Anutin announced that Thailand would immediately begin implementation procedures, including withdrawing heavy weapons from the border and releasing 18 detained Cambodian soldiers.
Anutin said at the ceremony that the agreement marked a new stage in Cambodia–Thailand relations and brought fresh hope for regional peace and stability.
He stressed that the agreement aimed to resolve differences peacefully, ensure respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity and prevent border communities from suffering further harm from conflict.
“Peace is not a compromise, but the first step for both countries towards the future,” Anutin said. He stated that both sides would responsibly implement the agreement’s terms and rebuild trust and cooperation damaged by border friction.
Anutin added that Thailand had begun work on withdrawal and handover arrangements and that the process of releasing the detained soldiers would start as soon as possible. He said he believed the agreement would lay a firm foundation for long-term stable relations.
