Summary

Authorities reported that heavy rain caused widespread flooding in Pursat, affecting thousands of families and forcing more than 500 people to relocate.

Widespread flooding hit Cambodia's northwestern Pursat province two days ago following sustained heavy rain. Rising water levels in several areas have significantly disrupted local life and livelihoods, with official figures showing thousands of households affected.

According to the national disaster management agency, heavy rain since the middle of this month has caused waterlogging and sharply rising river levels across Pursat. Five cities and districts have been affected, with roads and farmland inundated in several communes. The latest figures indicated that about 3,500 households had been affected to varying degrees, including more than 500 households relocated to temporary shelters for safety.

The disaster management committee said floodwaters had not yet receded in some parts of the province. Relevant departments were continuing patrols, rescue operations and deliveries of supplies. Authorities said they would keep monitoring weather and water levels closely to ensure necessary assistance reached affected residents and reduce potential secondary risks.
